Hooper has five schools on his list

DL Austin Hooper

Concord (Calif.) De La Salle defensive lineman Austin Hooper and his Spartan teammates took care of business Saturday night winning the schools 4th straight CIF State Open Division Championship.

Austin Hooper has been one of the state's top defensive end prospects the past two seasons and looked very good last Saturday night. He has a solid frame, a high motor and is a good athlete who can rush the passer, uses his hands very well and has obviously been very well coached at DLS.

"The last two seasons have been very special to me," Hooper said following the game Saturday night. "My sophomore year I got pulled up to varsity for the playoffs but I didn't really like I was part of that one. The last two years, I felt like I did play a big role in helping us and to go out on top like this and have an undefeated season is unbelievable.

"Last year's team was very special too, we just had the one loss in South Florida but this year, we ran the table and then finished it off. It's a great feeling and like I said, doing it with these guys who I've been playing with for the last four years, it really means a lot to me."

On the recruiting front, Hooper has already taken an official visit to Washington and has two more he's very interested in taking.

"Washington was a very enjoyable visit," Hooper said. "I camped there in the summer so already knew it was a beautiful place and I loved the campus. The best part was probably just hanging out with Coach Lupoi the whole time. He's a great guy and a great coach as well.

"Tosh is someone I'm very comfortable with and someone I know I can learn a lot from. He has had a lot of success developing defensive lineman and we have a good relationship, he's someone I know I can trust and that's important to me."

Hooper said he would like to check two more NW schools.

"I don't have any dates set yet but Oregon and Oregon State are two I know I will visit," Hooper said. "I wanted to get through our season and right now, I'm just enjoying the moment but I'll get those dates set up soon.

"California and Stanford are two more schools I'm interested in. Cal is the hometown school and with a new coach coming in, I'm interested in meeting the staff. Stanford has always been high on my list as well. It's a great academic school and a great football program. I don't know if I'll have time for an official there but I can always do an unofficial since it's pretty close to home."
