It's UAB for Morris

Rodney Morris

Rodney Morris used his senior day in basketball to set the table for his college football announcement, and the Alpharetta (Ga.) standout selected the UAB Blazers.

The UAB Blazers notched another solid 2013 prospect from Alpharetta (Ga.) High on Friday morning.

"Just committed to the University of Alabama-Birmingham!!!!!! #uab #blazers," Rodney Morris shared via Twitter.

He joins fellow Alpharetta Raider senior D'Vonn Isaac, a two-way lineman, on the Blazers' commitment list in this cycle and playing with his 2012 teammate at the next level is simply "very cool."

"It's a great environment," said Morris on why he chose UAB. "Also a good coaching staff and an up-and-coming program.

"It's also really close to home and my family can come see me play."

The 6-foot-3, 210-pounder is very versatile on the field, and was getting looks from several programs at different positions, but he will sign with the Blazers as a wide receiver come Wednesday.

"It's looking that way," he added.

With that, Morris has set the bar high for his freshman campaign.

"I think there's a good shot if I go in there and work really hard," he said of playing early. "I plan on trying to make freshman All-American team for the conference.

"Also breaking the starting lineup as a freshman."
