Coming into Tuesday night's game at Hofheinz Pavilion, the Cougars (7-1) looked to have an easy win over Toledo (1-6). However, Toledo, who won the MAC division last year, nailed their first five shots and led 11-0 after four minutes into the game. UH's Cougars managed to eke out an ugly 67-56 win over Toledo despite a sloppy performance that included 20 turnovers, Although the game got off to a slow start, once the little general, Lanny Smith, came in, everyone settled down and the Coogs got their rhythm on track. Marcus Cousin also got the Cougars offense rolling with the team's first four points, displaying potential for a dominant inside presence that the Cougars have lacked for years. Cousin finished the night with 10 points, eight rebounds and three blocked shots. Senior guard Robert McKiver (last week's CUSA co-MVP) contributed 20 points and senior forward Dion Dowell finished with 13 points. Come on out and show your support at Hofheinz Pavilion when the Cougars play Southern University at 7 p.m. this Saturday. This will be their last game prior to the mid-term exam break, so make plans now to attend! Game details at Chron.com |
